Martha O'Bryan Joyful Noise Service

E-mail Print PDF

Twice a year we make the journey to downtown Nashville to the Martha O'Bryan Center. The next trip downtown is March 14.   Our purpose in doing this is to lead the Joyful Noise Worship service for the local residents.   This time we will be leading music, doing puppets, brining the message, serving dinner and setting and cleaning up.  It is a busy time, but always rewarding for both our group and the residents.  We encourage all youth to come and participate and want a large group of adults as well.

The bus will leave the church at 3:00 PM and we will return by 7:00 PM.  Susan Williams does a great job providing the dinner, but we need your help with desserts.  If you can make a dessert to send, please contact Cathy McCall.

Sign up here if you would like to attend.

Sunday School 2009-2010

E-mail Print PDF

Our Sunday School program meets on Sunday mornings at 9:45 AM and runs till 10:30 AM. Before and after Sunday School is a coffee and snack time in Wilson Hall.

Confirmation Class (6th grade) Room 206
This class, for youth who are in the 6th grade, is designed to help young people explore the life of discipleship in preparation for making their profession of faith as well as future decisions regarding church membership and involvement. Youth are paired with an adult covenant partner, who meets weekly with them one-on-one, to continue the exploration.  Sixth graders who are not going to be confirmed still attend this class for Sunday School, but are not assigned a covenant partner.

Middle School (7th -8th grades) Room 117-118
Our curriculum this year is We Believe.  It is published by the PCUSA.  This year the We Believe curriculum has undergone a transformation in the way information is presented to the class.  It still has a strong Reformed theology tradition, while blending with a new style.  The middle school will be working out of the FAQ book (Faithfully Asking Questions).  This class will be challenged to ask hard questions while finding many answers.  The teachers are Chad Fowler and Susie Collier.

High School (9th-12th grades) Room 119-120
The high school will be using the We Believe curriculum as well, but they will start this year by doing a survey of the Old Testament.  They will be re-examining the stories of old to find the meanings for our lives today.  There is much to learn from the Old Testament and our high school students will have that chance this year.  The teachers are Russ Phillips and Laura Beth and Scott Russell.

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea."
-- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

First off a huge "Thank You" to all who have stepped up so far!  We could not do this without your support.

As I said before;  Working and traveling with and for our Youth is GREAT FUN!  The relationships that you forge along with the experiences you share will benefit and bless your life.   We invite each of you into the joy of working with the Youth of FPC Franklin.

Keep in mind that anyone who serves will not be out there alone & confused!  You will have the directions concerning the why's and why nots of your Event written out,  as well as any needed support from myself, Janet Cothron; Youth Ministry Program Coordinator and of course Nate Collier, our Director of Youth Ministry.
