YOUTH KICK-OFF RETREAT
August 21-22, 2010
Purpose: To begin the year enjoying fellowship, fun and worship “together”
Primary leader: C.J. Thompson – 627-7305
Travel arrangements: Church bus plus individual vehicles as needed.
What to bring:
- Sleeping bag or bed linens
- Pillow
- Flashlight
- Towel/washcloth
- Beach towel for lake
- Appropriate swimsuit (tankini or one-piece, no bikinis or speedos please J!)
- Personal toiletries
- Flip flops or sandals for the shower house and lake
- Insect repellent
- Sunscreen
- Rain gear
- Medications - All medications should be in their original container. Prescription medications should be given to the designated adult for safekeeping and distribution.
- NO cell phones or electronics
Registration:
- Turn in completed forms and payment to C.J. Thompson (in person or slide under his door) or to Janet Cothron (in person or in her office mailbox) by SUNDAY, AUGUST 8!!! (All are due at Deer Run on Monday, August 9.)

- $40 per participant payable to FPC (A scholarship fund is available if you need financial assistance with the fee by contacting one of the pastors with your request.)
- Due to the focus of the retreat, all participants are encouraged to attend for the entire time in order for everyone to get the most out of our time there.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 21
7:45 Meet at FPC
8:00 Depart FPC for Deer Run
8:40 Arrive at Deer Run
9:00 Low Ropes Course (supervised by Deer Run staff) (see below)
12:30 Lunch
1:00 Change into swim stuff
1:15 Spring Valley Lake - swimming, zip line, aqua park/blob, canoeing (see below)
3:15 Change into dry clothes
3:45 Debrief Ropes Course/keynote
4:30 Small groups (questions, hiking time, etc)
6:15 Meet for dinner/prayer
6:30 Dinner
7:15 Organized games/community building by age (organized/lead by Deer Run staff)
9:00 Vespers
10:00 In rooms, unpack – Creekside Bunkhouse
10:45 Lights out/Night Night Sleep Tight!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 22
8:00 Up and at’em
8:30 Breakfast
9:00 Clean-up/pack up
9:45 Worship
11:00 Head back to FPC
CREEKSIDE BUNKHOUSE
- Two-room bunkhouse that has built-in wooden bunks with mattresses and accommodates 20 persons in one room (boys) and 30 persons in the other room (girls). Includes electrical outlets, central air, lighting and ceiling fans.
- Connected to Bunkhouse – Creekside Meeting & Dining Facility and shower house with central air
- Adjacent to Bunkhouse – Ropes course, Spring Valley Lake and Creekside Recreational area including whiffle ball field, sand volleyball, Frisbee golf, table tennis, horseshoes and hiking trails.
LOW ROPES COURSE
- Sturdy shoes, such as hiking boots or athletic shoes (no open-toe or open-heel shoes, sandals, flip-flops)
- Loose-fitting pants or modest-length shorts
- Short or long sleeve shirts (no sleeveless shirts, spaghetti strap tops or tank tops)
- Insect repellent
- Sunscreen
- No jewelry (since it may get broken or lost)
SPRING VALLEY LAKE
- Safety rules are posted at the lake and MUST be observed at all times.
- Swimming or wading in the lake are not allowed without a lifeguard present (provided by Deer Run Retreat).
- A life jacket (provided by Deer Run Retreat) is required to be worn by ALL participants for swimming and canoeing regardless of swimming ability.
- Deer Run Retreat requests that all female swimmers wear a one-piece swimsuit (tankinis acceptable) or a dark t-shirt over two-piece swimsuits. [No speedos for male participants too.]
